New year saw its first major running event in the form of Skechers Performance Chennai Marathon 2021(SPCM)
SPCM 2021 was held at the super-fast Madras Motor Race Track. The race was held in a loop of about 3.7km with categories of marathon, 20-miler, half-marathon and 10k. Here are some interesting stats from the race.

Marathon Finishers' Distribution by Time
Full marathon distance had 113 finishers, while half-marathon and 10k had 416 and 262 finishers.
30% finishing under 4 hours, it is one of the fastest SPCM.
Highest number of runners (14) finished between 4h:20m and 4h:30m.
Pacing Strategy of Marathon Finishers
Most runners ran positive splits strategy to finish the race.
Only 14 out of 113 runners ran negative splits strategy.
All of four sub 3 finishers ran negative splits.
Shriram Properties Bengaluru Marathon 2021(SPBM)
Second major race of the year took place in Bengaluru, with NEB sports organizing Shriram Properties Bengaluru Marathon 2021 (SPBM) on the outskirts of Bangalore.
The entries were capped per the new guidelines, and it had marathon category only, runners had to run in a loop of 8.4km. There were 152 marathon finishers, these runners were almost seen flying in their VaporFlys, AlphaFlys, and Adios pros. The race has set a new standard with 11 finishers under 3 hour; and for us Indian amateur running scene has arrived.
